Well, 30 days goes by fast! After an unsuccessful attempt a month ago at renewing our visas through the Swaziland border, we decided to try another border! Our visas were going to run out on Monday so this weekend we went to Mozambique. After only an hour and a half drive we were at the border. We arrived just after lunchtime, which is a slow time but still took 2 hours to get through! Such a process! And in Africa when they say 20 minutes you don’t get too excited because that actually means 2 hours! A couple of local guys trying to make a buck helped us and were very happy when we gave them the equivalent of $3. Two hours worth of work for $3! After all that we decided we would go ahead and drive 45 minutes to Maputo, the closest big city and capital. I think the most accurate words to describe it are Latin Africa. We enjoyed being in the city and eating prawns and chicken
at a Mozambican restaurant and even a Portuguese pastry at the bakery. It was a long 10 hour day but fun to see and experience another part of Africa. And after all that we got what we went for…a 90 day visa!
