Getting older is an interesting thing. As I’m constantly around young people, I am reminded of the age gap when I start talking about TV shows like Dukes of Hazzard, Mork and Mindy, and Knight Rider. They give me this blank stare like, “I have no idea what you’re talking about!” How can this be? Wasn’t it just a few years ago that I was wearing jellies and using water to put on fake tattoos? No, I guess that was actually more than 20 years ago now?! Where does the time go?
Now that I’m a parent, I get to travel back to those childhood memories when my daughter sleeps with her care bears, dresses up her cabbage patch dolls, and arranges Strawberry Shortcake and Ginger Snap like they’re having a tea party. But my favorite are the jellies. Oh, how I remember my shoe wardrobe of pink, purple, clear, white, green jellies in different styles to match every outfit. I loved them!
And the tattoos. Is it just me or have tattoos gotten more advanced? I remember using water and pressing so hard to get every part of it on my arm and still I was lucky to get the whole thing on. While we were in Uganda, Emma Grace’s aunt put tattoos on the girls. After 4 weeks, it’s still there! 4 weeks! And she won’t let me scrub it off for anything. I never had a tattoo last for 4 weeks. What do they put in those now??
