I won a giveaway last week. Don’t worry. This post isn’t about me boasting about winning. (Although I do love giveaways!) No, it’s actually about something bigger. Something that got me thinking, because this win came just after I had uttered a prayer for God to provide for us, and this happens to be a gift certificate for $50 to an online children’s shop. With a birthday coming up and Christmas not too far away, it hit me as a way of God providing.
The week went on and Sunday morning at church, I found myself listening to a sermon centered around coincidence vs. God’s provision. Hmmm…coincidence? Now I know that anyone could have won that giveaway. But I believe that if I hadn’t won that giveaway, God would have found another way to provide. Why? Because He’s good, and He hears our prayers. He hears my prayers.
I believe that if I just looked at something as simple as a giveaway win as chance or coincidence, I would be missing a very important piece to the puzzle…thankfulness. As a missionary, I am always leaning on God to provide financially. I have learned that it’s not something I should expect simply because I am serving Him in this way, but it’s a constant lesson in leaning and trusting. After 14 years of that, I am still amazed and incredibly thankful for how He provides for our needs.
So I guess you could say this is a little reminder and challenge to live in an attitude of thankfulness.
Another thing I am incredibly grateful for is the writing opportunity I’ve been given over at Today’s Mama. In case you’ve missed them in the sidebar, my August and September posts that I haven’t linked to in a post are…Getting The Creative Juices Flowing, The Discipline of De-Plugging, Does It Take A Community To Raise A Child?, National Relaxation Day, Growing Pains, and How The Alarm Clock Saved My Life, and Adding Creative Pizazz To Housecleaning!
