Continuing on with those lovely Christmas hand knits…I give you the hats and scarves for some of the big people in my life that I love! I made Jeremy the Hill Country Hat, a free download from the book, The Knitter’s Book of Wool. I used Paton’s Shetland Chunky Tweed in earthy brown. I had to make some modifications (see my ravelry page for details), though, to the original pattern. The first rendition of this hat came out way too big. I hate re-doing projects, but it had to be done. The second rendition (shown in the pics) came out just perfect.
Last year my mom expressed interest in a hand knit scarf. For whatever reason, Christmas came around and that scarf still hadn’t become a reality. Shame on me, but it sure helped me make an easy decision on what to make for her! I wanted something that had a slight feminine flair to it, so I chose the Ruffle Lace Scarf by Suzie Blackman. I love the corkscrew look that happens when you let this scarf hang! This was knit using 3 skeins of Austermann Natura, a combination of wool, bamboo, cotton, alpaca, mohair, and softness!
Moving right along, for my brother-in-law I decided to knit both a hat and a scarf. I chose the Man Hat. Really, really love this pattern. So much so that I made one as a birthday gift, too! It’s simple and has a really great fit (although see my ravelry page for some more slight mods). I used Paton’s Shetland Chunky Tweeds in charcoal (do you see a pattern here with this yarn??). Charcoal is seriously one of my new favorite colors!
The Brisbane Scarf from Lion Brand was the perfect fit with this hat. Knit on bigger needles, it went fairly fast. That’s my kind of scarf! Otherwise, I get bored knitting those long things! I was so thrilled to hear that my brother-in-law held off on buying a hat and scarf hoping he would get one for Christmas! Score!
