christmas handmades :: hats for the kids

Today, when I downloaded pictures from my camera, I realized just how seriously I took my holiday rest.  Pictures from December 21st to January 4th were still on my camera!  If I may say so, I am proud of myself for being so deliberate.  It’s a physical way I can see some of the growth that has taken place in my life over the last several months!

On to the Christmas handmades, something I am very excited to talk about!  I was so thrilled to be able to give away so many hand knits for Christmas gifts this year.  I had more knitting orders this season than last, and yet I was still able to make everything on my list…without any stress!  I do believe that’s success!

My favorite thing to knit are hats.  They are fun, easy, and quick, providing that instant gratification that comes from finishing a project.  It’s become my tradition (2 years in a row makes it tradition, right??) to knit the kids a new hat for Christmas.  (That’s the easy part.  The hard part is getting them to pose for pictures!)

I didn’t use a pattern for the kid’s hats.  Joshua’s hat is a simple 1X1 rib knit using the super soft Paton’s Shetland Chunky in Earthy Brown.  I am very proud to say that it has already replaced last year’s hat and has been seen on his head on many occasions!

Emma G’s hat is a pattern I wrote down last year when I saw a super cute girl’s hat on the Children’s Place website.  I wish I would have saved a picture of that hat to see if it turned out anything like it.  Regardless, I love the simple cables and texture of this hat, not to mention the softness of the Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends yarn (colorway peony) that I used.  She was the one that didn’t want to pose for pictures, but then she warmed up and came up with her own poses (hence the waving hand).

It’s been a mild winter, but these have been perfect for the chilly mornings when the kids walk to school!  More handmade knits coming to you tomorrow!
