Smack Dab In The Middle of God’s Love is a sweet story of Willie Juan and Ana. Although they couldn’t have children of their own, it seems their house is always full of the neighborhood children. Feasting on Ana’s homemade sopapillas one day, Willie Juan asks the children, “Little friends, someday, when you are in heaven, what do you think Abba will ask you?” With all the great answers, Willie Juan is able to remind the children of the great love Abba has for them.
There’s several things I liked about this book. I love that it has a very international feel, clearly taking place outside of America. I also love that “smack dab in the middle” is mentioned throughout. I think it helps kids understand what the phrase means which helps drive the point home of God’s love even more. The only minor thing I didn’t like were there were a couple of words that seemed out of place for a kid’s book. I know my 7 year old didn’t understand them which, I suppose, provides opportunity to teach her some new vocabulary. You can see a sampling of the book right here!
