Welcome to In The Studio! Last Friday I revealed a big project that I’ve been working on…The Village Store. I was so encouraged by the comments. Thanks for sharing in my excitement, friends! Without our amazing artists, The Village Store wouldn’t exist. I’m super excited to take the next several weeks to introduce my friends and show you their studios!
Today I want to introduce you to Gloria. I first met Gloria 4 or 5 years ago when she started cleaning house for one of our staff families. House cleaning for an African woman is so very common. Little did we know that there was some creativity bubbling under the surface. My sister-in-law recognized Gloria’s interest and began to teach her how to sew.
In just a few years, her talent has grown so much! She makes purses, baby shoes, baby bibs, coin purses, and baby clothes! Her dream is to one day become a fashion designer and open her own boutique. When I told her recently that I believe that could happen, she laughed. Dreaming is not something that happens often here. Pursuing a career in a creative field is even less likely.
I’m so excited that The Village Store is not just an outlet to sell Gloria’s items, but it’s also there to encourage her dream. It’s so life giving to earn a living doing what you love. I love encouraging creativity! I also love that it provides a good income for Gloria and her 4 children. Isn’t her stuff lovely?

Now it’s your turn! Remember your “studio” can be anywhere. Let’s celebrate each other’s creativity by linking up and visiting as many as the other studios as you can. Check out the about post for more info and don’t forget to grab the In The Studio button!

May 10, 2013 at 11:09 amHow nice to meet Gloria and yes, she does sew lovely things! She's beautiful too! Thanks for sharing about this with us, I love seeing and hearing about these things.
PS, I have a question about the button, it doesn't bring me to the current 'in the studio' page, it takes me to the button page…just wondering if that's how it's supposed to work?
