christmas and giving

As I stood there and listened to someone share about the greatest gift of all, and as I watched my kids hand out a goodie bag to the kids in Clau Clau, I was reminded that this is what it’s all about. I’ve had a hard time this holiday season. It’s silly, really, but I love this time of year…in the states. I love the weather, the Starbuck’s holiday drinks, the Christmas lights, I just love the festiveness. And I’ve missed it this year. I told you it’s silly, but I’m just being honest here.

However…

As I stood there taking in the scene before me, I was reminded that Christmas is not about all those things, fun as they may be. It really is about giving, giving of ourselves as Jesus so freely did.

It’s about kissing those snotty nosed faces.

It’s about playing tag for minutes on end, just to keep hearing the precious giggles.

It’s about feeding cake to 200 kids.

It’s about giving of ourselves, even {especially} when it involves sacrifice.

I’m praying that the more I keep telling myself that, the deeper it will sink in…
