creativity in the studio

in the studio :: color

Welcome to In The Studio, a place to show off your studio and meet some great artists! My creative list involved 2 projects this week. TWO! That’s a lot higher than average lately. On Monday I sat down to do some writing. After frustratingly slow Internet, I decided it was time to get creative instead. It was good for the soul, AND I got a Valentine’s bunting out of it. Score.

I don’t know how much I have explained to you, my readers, about where we live and work, so this next creative venture might need a little backstory. We live on a campus that we use as a discipleship and training facility for local Africans as well as people all over the world. It’s also the place where we make our home. The end of last year, as I looked around the campus, I realized that it was time to put color on half painted or even non-painted buildings. That sent me on a path to research colors and what might go together. It was fun, and even though I’ve second guessed myself since it’s been done, it’s SO good to see COLOR on buildings.

Remember our Village Store? I went with a deep purple for that one. That has been most everyone’s favorite. I love it myself. We have some work to do on the front of the building, but at least you get an idea of the progress.

For our main house where some of our staff live, I went with a gray with green undertones. It’s pretty neutral, but I love it with the pops of flower colors right outside. For our pavilion which serves as an eating area, I went with a yellow. This is the one I’ve second guessed myself on. I really like the color, but keeping it clean has been a bit of an issue. For the little cottage near to the pavilion, I went with an orange with copper undertones. It’s REALLY orange in certain light, but I like it. I’m looking forward to getting the windows painted. It’s going to look so good.

We also had a crew painting our house. While I want to show it to you as well, I need to wait until it’s finished. Hopefully soon.

Now it seems we need to put some attention to painting roofs. Never a shortage of work around here. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now it’s your turn! Remember your “studio” can be anywhere. Let’s celebrate each other’s creativity by linking up and visiting as many as the other studios as you can. Check out the about post for more info and don’t forget to grab the In The Studio button!

    Nice colours! We painted our back bedroom. Still some touchups to do before we can move in there, but it's exciting.

    Amazing what a difference paint can make to the visual effect and how we feel about things. It's lovely to see a little more of where you are living and working Jen, it looks quite pleasant.
