Africa creativity in the studio Ministry

in the studio :: fresh layers

Welcome to In The Studio, a place to show off your studio and meet some great artists! We started a new discipleship school here in S. Africa this week. Five students from USA and S. Africa have come together for five months to deepen their relationship with God and be a part of His heart for orphans and vulnerable children. Jeremy and I are leading this school which is super exciting because, I LOVE these schools. Just look at the crazy bunch we have to work with over the next five months!

One of the cool things about this school is that we are incorporating LOTS of creativity. I believe creativity is so vital. It helps us process difficult things. It helps us articulate when there are no words. There’s a freedom that happens when we let go and CREATE.

new wineskins

We started with 4 blank canvases. They’re fresh starts. The beginning. They’re new wineskins as it says in Matthew 9:17. Over the next five months we will fill these blank canvases with layers and layers of the new wine, the change, that God will be doing in us. I can’t wait to see the masterpiece that is going to emerge!

the start of something beautiful

first day

The thing I absolutely love about the creative process is that there’s a freedom that happens when we push through the insecurities to create. It’s so incredibly beautiful.

Now it’s your turn! Remember your “studio” can be anywhere. Let’s celebrate each other’s creativity by linking up and visiting as many as the other studios as you can. Check out the about post for more info and don’t forget to grab the In The Studio button!

A few weeks ago we celebrated as the first HOME of 2014 was finished here at Ten Thousand Homes. What a party we had as we handed over the keys to Mama Charity and her 5 children! Read the story here and celebrate with us!

happy new year!

From our family to yours Happy New Year! Here’s to a new year filled with goodness, love, and dreams coming true!

Yesterday I posted some of my favorite moments from 2013. Please also check out the Ten Thousand Homes 2013 review (also accessible here if you have trouble with the other link). A queen got her palace, the chariots brought royalty, the family grew, and even more stories filled the pages of the year here at TTH.

HOME :: before and after

I love before and afters. I also love welcoming a family HOME. There’s so much joy in that. We recently welcomed HOME Michael and Francisco making a total of 4 families that have received 4 walls and a roof (and so much more) this year. Celebrate with us as these physical HOMES haven’t just brought better shelter but also a HOPE that Jesus loves them so.

christmas and giving

Last week was a week of celebrating Christmas with the kids that come to the feeding programs we run here in S. Africa. The kids in Mbonisweni were chomping at the bit for a peek at the cake safely tucked away inside (well, safe from little hands, not safe from the heat). I loved their curious faces!

As I stood there and listened to someone share about the greatest gift of all, and as I watched my kids hand out a goodie bag to the kids in Clau Clau, I was reminded that this is what it’s all about. I’ve had a hard time this holiday season. It’s silly, really, but I love this time of year…in the states. I love the weather, the Starbuck’s holiday drinks, the Christmas lights, I just love the festiveness. And I’ve missed it this year. I told you it’s silly, but I’m just being honest here.

As I stood there taking in the scene before me, I was reminded that Christmas is not about all those things, fun as they may be. It really is about giving, giving of ourselves as Jesus so freely did.

It’s about kissing those snotty nosed faces.

It’s about playing tag for minutes on end, just to keep hearing the precious giggles.

It’s about feeding cake to 200 kids.

It’s about giving of ourselves, even {especially} when it involves sacrifice.

so happy

I’m praying that the more I keep telling myself that, the deeper it will sink in…
