it’s a love{ly} valentine’s giveaway

In honor of Valentine’s Day coming up, I thought I would show some love around here by doing a giveaway!  In an age of computers and easy internet accessibility, sometimes I wonder if we’ve lost the art of writing a handwritten note.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love that I can send an email and five seconds later my friends in Africa are reading it, but I also love receiving something handwritten in the mail.

Up for the taking, I have a set of five post cards wrapped inside a little cloth stationery bag.  On the front you can see a stamped love bird image, and inside there is a pocket for the post cards and four little pockets to hold pens.  It is held together by two ribbons.  You might recognize the post cards from my love calendar.  I also have three stationery sets just like this for sale in my shop!

Glass Beverage Bottle Tutorial

glass bottles

I have to give the credit of this idea to my husband.  As is usually the case in our family, he gets the idea, and I implement it.  This alone shows how much he’s the visionary in our family and I’m the practical one!  I absolutely love this idea and had so much fun making it!  Taking a few supplies, you can make a fun beverage bottle that would be perfect for entertaining!

Supply List

1 empty glass bottle (I used empty wine and San Pellegrino bottles)
1 can primer spray paint (I used Rustoleum)
1 can chalkboard spray paint (also Rustoleum)
tape and newspaper

Directions

1.  Make sure bottles are clean and dry.

2.  Tape off the area you would like to paint.  You can either make a stencil or just tape it.  I find that just taping it gives much cleaner lines.  Also tape newspaper all around to avoid over spray.

3.  Lay the bottle down flat (outside!) and spray the primer on.  Let dry (dries to the touch in about 20 minutes) and re-coat.

4.  After 2 coats of primer, spray the chalkboard paint on.  I did 3 coats, waiting about 20 min. in between each coat.

5.  When it’s dry, bring it inside and remove all the tape and paper.

6.  Let cure for 24 hours.  After that, you can clean up any crooked lines using a razor or with light sanding.

7.  Write the beverage of choice on the outside and enjoy your fancy new glass beverage bottle!

I bought the corks at Hobby Lobby.  I love the extra touch they add!  If you don’t want to take the time to make your own bottles, I have 2 for sale in my shop!

Knucks…The Hot Item

There’s been lots of knitting going on around these parts.  I have my Christmas knitting list which is making steady progress, and then I’ve had several knitting orders which has been excellent!  Making a little cash doing something I love?  I’ll go for that!

knucks

It seems the popular items for 2010 are knucks.  They really are cool and I love the pattern!  I also love that the designer permits you make a profit off these!  Since there are lots of projects I have been working on, I haven’t managed to knit up some extras for my shop, but they are available for order.  I can make kid’s or adult sizes.

I knit these up in the super soft Debbie Bliss Cashmerino and available colors are charcoal gray (like in the picture), black, or navy!  If you’d like to order a pair, shoot me an email!  I can still make them by Christmas!
