The Kumquat

kumquats

I tried something new this week. I’ve walked by this little fruit so many times in the produce section. I hate peeling oranges, so when I saw these little things I thought, “Now how in the world do you eat those?!” But as the tag, “sweet and edible rind” caught my eye, curiosity gave away and I threw them in my cart. It’s like a gem I’ve been missing out on. The sweet, sour taste explosion that happens with every bite is simply amazing!

The kumquat originated in China and can be used for making preserves, marmalade, liqueur, or a brine to remedy sore throats (I’ll keep that one in mind.) If you ever see one, be sure to try the taste explosion! Your palate won’t know what hit it!
