Identifying With David

praying hands

I’m still reading that book, The Voice Of Psalms.  I can’t rush through it, so it’s taking me a while to read it from cover to cover.  I’ve been struck lately with David’s words, especially Psalm 63:1-4…

O True God, You are my God, the One whom I trust.
I seek You with every fiber of my being in this dry and weary land with no water in sight,
My soul is dry and longs for You.
My body aches for You, for Your presence.
I have seen You in Your sanctuary and have been awed by Your power and glory.
Your steadfast love is better than life itself, so my lips will give You all my praise.
I will bless You with every breath of my life; I will lift up my hands in praise to Your name.

When I read that, I heard David’s faith shining through.  We all experience times when we don’t feel God’s presence.  We know He’s there because He’s told us He will always be with us and because we have experienced Him around us before.  But sometimes, for whatever reason, He feels distant.  I love how David so beautifully put it…my soul is dry and longs for YouYour steadfast love is better than life itself…  May my body always ache for God’s presence
