As a kid, I always loved summer for the fireflies. I always called them lightning bugs, but somewhere along the way, I changed my lingo to fireflies. I like it better. As soon as dusk hit, my brother and I were outside, jars in hand, to catch our treasures. We would run all over the yard chasing those little things. They were moments, bonds, memories, that I love!
As soon as we were either tired, satisfied with our bugs, or couldn’t find anymore (probably because we chased them all away), we went inside. Those were the nights where bedtime was eagerly anticipated because the sweet, soft glow of fireflies illuminated the darkness, creating an almost magical feeling.
Catching fireflies with my kids is certainly a summer activity that I love. It draws me back to those days as a kid. I remember the fun my brother and I shared and anticipate the same for my kids!
