sharon :: she is valued

Among the crowds of people in Dino, English was seldom heard, unless it was a member of our team, so when Sharon walked up to me and started speaking in near perfect English, I was shocked and excited. A conversation without a translator? Yes!

Sharon is only nineteen years of age and has a beautiful six month old daughter, Nadia. I was heartbroken to hear that Sharon’s “husband” has left her for another woman. I say “husband” because, even though that’s the word she used, it’s hard to know for certain if that’s the case.

In a land where men must pay a dowry or a lobola to marry a woman, you’ll find that when they can’t afford it, they will live as though they are married. When a child is born, that’s usually when they start using the terms husband and wife.

With no real commitment, it’s no wonder women are frequently left for another. Sharon now lives with her mother-in-law, but she has dreams. She dreams of returning to school one day, so she can get an education and provide for her and her daughter.

Would you pray for Sharon and Nadia and that Sharon’s dreams would become reality? And that Sharon and Nadia would know the value and worth God places on their lives?
