Popular author, Colleen Coble, has expanded her novel repertoire to include kid’s fiction books. I’ve just finished reading Rock Harbor Search and Rescue, and it was fantastic. A little peek goes something like this… Emily O’Reilly loves dogs and aspires to have her own search and rescue dog one day and be a part of a search and rescue team. Her parents tell her she must pay half of the cost of a puppy, so she sells some of her jewelry at a local festival. She had no idea everything would go so wrong when she agreed to watch Mary Dancer’s booth next to hers while Ms. Dancer went to the bathroom. While on Emily’s watch, Ms. Dancer’s prized necklace was stolen. The little money Emily had went to Ms. Dancer to help pay for the stolen necklace. Crushed by the thought of losing her puppy and by the fact that she is a suspect, Emily is motivated to find the real thief to clear her name and still buy her puppy. Will she find the real thief? You have to read to find out!
Here’s what I liked from a Mom’s point of view…
1. The story is told through the main character, a young girl named Emily in the 8th grade. I think telling stories from the point of view of kids helps young readers identify more.
2. The story included Emily’s struggles while emphasizing her faith in Jesus at the same time.
3. A personal preference, but since most of my favorite novels are crime related, I loved that this one was the same but with kid friendly words that are easier to understand.
4. Seeing as a puppy just came into our lives, it was fun to read about a young girl and her adventures with dogs.
I do believe Emma G will love this book! Want to win your very own copy, too?
