color your world {white}

It’s the last Color Your World challenge of the year. Have you enjoyed these? I know I have. I love a good challenge, especially one that makes you stop and notice the color around you. Are you ready for some white this month?

snowprints

first snow

Right after we landed in the states from our European excursion, we stayed in Connecticut for a few days. Can you believe the first snow of the season happened while we were there? For Texans transplanted to S. Africa, snow is a big deal. The kids sure enjoyed it, and I enjoyed watching the flakes fall all day creating a beautiful blanket of white. It sure is a stark contrast to the 80 degree weather we’ve had in Texas the past few days. If I wanted Christmas in Summer, I could’ve stayed in S. Africa!

color your world :: brown

I’ll be honest. I didn’t know about this month’s color your world. Brown? How was I going to highlight that color in a photo and make it look all pretty? During our travels in England and Ireland, I had brown in mind. I was honestly amazed at the creativity I found in this color that I thought would be dull to capture.

the leather room
When we stayed in the South of England at Holmsted Manor, there were plenty of browns in that manor that were worth capturing. The woodwork was amazing. This shot of Emma G was taken in the “Leather Room.” Aren’t those walls amazing? That is leather and it’s really, really old and really, really cool.

brown door

Moving right along to Ireland. How do you like that brown door? That’s at Trinity College. That campus was amazing.

wood

While spending the day in Kilkenny, I spotted this very interesting tree. Isn’t that wood pattern fabulous? Such interesting textures and shapes in there.

flat white art

And finally, have you ever heard of a flat white? I was introduced to them my second week in England and ordered one every chance I got. It felt the way it was described to me…strong coffee with silky milk on top. Costa Coffee makes it even better with their pretty coffee art.

Wow! Can’t believe all those browns! Now it’s your turn to show off your brown!

color your world :: orange

I used to think orange was not for me. I don’t know why I didn’t like it but I just didn’t. I wonder, though, if your taste in color changes every seven years like your taste buds, because sometime in the last several years, I’ve come to like orange.

Last week the kids and I went to the Botanical Gardens to do home schooling. Talk about a learning adventure! And the orange. Oh, my goodness. It was everywhere. I’ve gone out on many an occasion taking nature photos, so I tried to give myself a little challenge this time. In the bright African middle of the day sun, I tried to use it to my advantage rather than complain about its harshness. It really is amazing how changing the angle of your shot can really change the effect.

color your world :: teal

I think teal is my new favorite color. I’ve been drawn to it lately. The other day I went to the second hand shop here in White River. My favorite piece in the whole place was a teal wardrobe. It was amazing in all of it’s shabby chic glory.

As I set out to discover the teal in my own home, I realized there wasn’t much. That will change soon. Basically I found all the teal in my house and took photos of it. After the massive fire we had on Friday, a little pop of teal among the charred trees offered just a little beauty.

The only other hints of teal I found were my ironing board cover and my cell phone case. Not much but I’ll take it.

color your world :: purple

I returned from Uganda just two days ago. With today being this month’s Color Your World challenge, I found my mind and heart wanting to linger on the stories and photos from Uganda rather than quickly switch to something else. It just doesn’t feel right to jump into anything else yet, so I began looking through my photos in search of this month’s color, purple. Here’s what I found…

Just a few dots of it here and there. When I think of purple, I think of royalty. I know that’s the way God sees all of these beautiful people, and my prayer for them is that they would know that and walk in the fulness of that.

Check out what I found in Uganda. I was able to snap a photo as we drove down the road. Pretty cool, huh?
