the magic of motherhood {giveaway}

the magic of motherhood

On my recent 36 hour trek from Dallas to South Africa, my book in tow was The Magic of Motherhood. Compiled by Ashlee Gadd from Coffee + Crumbs, this book is a collection of stories from many different women who have experienced the highs and lows of this thing called motherhood. They share their hearts on being pregnant, raising babies, miscarriage, adoption, and infertility. One minute you’re laughing and the next you’re crying. Since I don’t have small babies anymore, it brought a sense of nostalgia to the days of no sleep and diapers everywhere. It’s a fast and easy read or one that you can savor for weeks as each chapter is stand alone. I highly recommend this book to pregnant moms, new moms, women who have had to deal with the difficulty of conceiving, and those that have welcomed children as your own through the process of adoption. Lucky you, I have one to giveaway!

lost and found {giveaway}

lost & found

I love it when my kids and I read the same book. It’s a great opportunity for discussion. Grab a cup of tea, a comfy chair, and your book, and your child will feel like a grown-up, and you will get to hear what’s going on inside their beautiful mind. My daughter and I recently read Lost & Found from the Rock Harbor Search and Rescue series by Colleen Coble. She writes books in the adult genre, but this series is specifically labeled Juvenile Fiction. Emma Grace read the book first, and I knew she loved it, because she could not stop talking about it. The plot pulled her in and was interesting enough to keep her captivated. She was on the edge of her seat to tell me the ending but patiently waited until I read the book myself.

Obviously, I loved that the book interested her so much, but I also really enjoyed this mystery novel. My favorite book genre are crime stories. Even though this is one is geared toward young adults, it drew me in as well. Fourteen-year-old friends, Emily and Olivia, love solving mysteries. Emily is training her search and rescue puppy, Sherlock, to be her crime solving sidekick. There’s two significant mysteries to solve in this book, the story behind Olivia’s adoption and the disappearance of Naomi, Emily’s stepmother. The author weaves them together beautifully and keeps you interested while not dragging the story out. There’s also great lessons that any age can learn from. The girls learn what it means to trust God even though you don’t understand why and that He always sees and wants their best. I highly recommend this book to all ages! And guess what? I have one to give away!

war for the waking world {giveaway}

war for the waking world

Well, it’s another Wayne Thomas Batson great! In his third installment in the Dreamtreaders series, Batson takes us on another adventure with 15 year old Archer Keaton. The plot thickens as the waking world and dream world collide and people’s wildest dreams are being played out in real life. It might sound exciting, but it causes mass chaos, especially with Archer’s ex-best friend, Kara, at the head with her devious plans. Kara is building an army to take over, and Archer and his fellow dreamtreaders must stop her before things get too out of control!

I really liked this book, because I feel like it taught a very important lesson to not give up, even when things look really dim. It would have been easy for Archer and his dreamtreading friends to give up in the chaos, especially when they were in over their heads, but they didn’t. They gathered strength from Jesus and fought for something they believed in. I think that’s such an important lesson to remember that when we are weak, His is strong. We just have to lean on His strength.

This is a great book for tweens and teens. It teaches a good lesson and comes highly recommended from me. 🙂

restore my soul coloring book devotional {review}

Restore My Soul

Isn’t coloring amazing? I remember coloring LOTS in elementary school. Unfortunately, the further we rise into adulthood, it becomes a lost art. The plethora of adult coloring books out there helps to remedy that problem. Have you indulged yourself in one of those? The intricateness of the pages draws me in for hours or even days as I set it aside for household responsibilities only to come back later where I’ve left off. It’s.so.relaxing.

I recently started perusing the Restore My Soul coloring book devotional journey by Ann-Margret Hovsepian. Love it. Here’s the things that set it apart for me…

1. There’s a Scripture and a devotion to go along with each coloring page.
2. There’s a prompt to reflect on as you color each page.
3. While there is detail in the drawings, they are such that you can actually finish them in an hour or less.
4. It’s Jesus focused!

If you want to rest, slow your life down a notch, and creative space in your brain, I highly suggest purchasing an adult coloring book with some fresh, new pencils, and I highly suggest that the one you purchase be Restore My Soul. It’s a great way to add some freshness to your times with Jesus. He’s a creative God, so I imagine bringing creativity into our times with Him absolutely delights Him.

brave enough {review}

Brave Enough

It took me a long time to get through this book but not because I didn’t like it. Rather, it was because I was savoring it. The words on these pages aren’t for a quick read. They’re words that you need to ponder, absorb, and let settle into the deep recesses of your heart.

We all want to be brave men and women. I love how the author emphasizes that, because of God’s grace, we already have the tools we need to be brave. We just have to utilize them.

The section of the book that impacted me the most was when she talked about grace. “Honesty about our failure is the key to courage.” Isn’t that the truth? Giving ourselves grace when we’ve messed up is one of the most courageous things we could do, and giving ourselves grace is saying that we can’t fix it on our own. We need God’s help in our lives. What a great place to be!

This book is one of those that would be excellent as a study book. The end of each chapter presents the readers with their daily brave challenge. It’s the opportunity to go deeper with what we’ve just been presented with.

If you’re looking for a book to help you go deeper in your walk with God, then I definitely recommend this book. It will challenge you to be a person that walks through life bravely. We all want to be brave, right?
